Smitty's is an old sport shop in the Urbandale area of Battle Creek. Everyone we meet lays claim to their father or grandfather first bringing them through the door as a kid. It has been somewhat neglected and is in great need of some TLC. Slowly but surely we are cleaning, stocking, and rebuilding, with a welcoming staff to help you as soon as you walk in the door.

A word about Uncle Jake: Having taught fly tying and tackle making to many people over the years I look forward to having this site as the home of our fly tying courses. In these pages we will give step by step instructions that we typically use when teaching those who have little or no fly tying experience. We use patterns that can be tied with readily available materials, we stress mechanics over recipes and we try to focus on flies that are not only rewarding to tie but that also catch fish.
We also hope to share a little about ourselves, our friends and about the Western Michigan area where we live and fish. We hope those of you who visit will choose to join our community and let us know more about yourself and your fishing interests.
We welcome your questions and comments and would welcome the opportunity to help others that may wish to teach a course of their own. Want to use something, contact me-paul@unclejakes.net.
